November 8, 2024: Skills Training - Sexuality, Fertility, and the Growth of a Family

In this training, participants will explore aspects of sexuality and new parenthood. In the morning session, participants will discuss aspects of fertility and infertility, including options available to couples who wish to become pregnant and impacts of fertility challenges and infertility treatments on couples' sexual relationships. In the afternoon session, participants will explore relationship development in couples transitioning from a dyad to a new family of three.

Join us via Zoom to view this training. Participants must register for class by 5pm the day before. In order to receive CE credits, you must complete the evaluation form that will be sent to you.

9:00 AM - 10:30 AM: Aspects of Fertility and Infertility

Presented by: Nattalie Wolff-Tseng, LMHC

This training will highlight and illuminate the challenges and processes that are part of managing fertility and reproductive difficulty. Specifically, we will confront pregnancy loss and IVF/other medical interventions for family building and how these efforts can impact sexual relational dynamics. Included in the course material will be specific information regarding family building in the LGBTQIA+ community. This course is grounded in reproductive justice and will provide therapeutic skills that allow clinicians to engage in competent, knowledgeable, and compassionate care for those struggling with family building.

12:45 PM - 2:15 PM: From Couple to Family: The Impact of Becoming a New Parent on Sexuality

Presented by: Jeremiah Gibson, LMFT, CST

This training will discuss the impact of becoming a new parent on sexuality. In the first half of the class, we'll explore the biological impacts of post-partum, the relational shift that comes from conceptualizing self and other as parent, in conjunction with partner, and the emotional shifts for partners that exist during the first year of a child's life.

2:15 PM - 2:30 PM: 15 minute break

2:30 PM - 4:00 PM: From Couple to Family: Maintaining and Creating New Sexual Scripts as New Parents

Presented by: Jeremiah Gibson, LMFT, CST

In the second half of From Couple To Family, we'll describe strategies for maintaining and creating new sexual scripts for parents. We'll talk about the evolution of desire post-partum, incorporating intentionality into the relationship, co-sleeping, and how positive sexual practices and the wider practice of intimacy can mutually reinforce each other.

This 6 CE credit course meets the criteria for the following Sex Therapy Training Content Areas:

  • 2 CE credits in Criteria Letter A (Theory and methods of sex-related psychotherapy, including several different models)

  • 2 CE credits in Criteria Letter C (Theory and methods of approach to intervention in relationship systems experiencing sex and intimacy problems)

  • 2 CE credits in Criteria Letter E (Principles of consultation, collaboration, and referral)

This program meets the requirements for the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors and Therapists (AASECT) and is approved for 6 total CE credits. These CE credits may be applied toward AASECT Certification and renewal of certification. South Shore Sexual Health Center, LLC, Provider #15-784-S.
